Please join us for a celebration to kick-off the year round bus service!

We're Still Rolling!

Beginning Tuesday, October 9, 2018 The WAVE will roll-out year round service! For the first time in Island history residents will officially have public transportation all winter with easier access to work, shopping, recreation and holiday activities.
Earlier this year, the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) kicked off the year round service with a ribbon cutting and celebration under the new porch at the Greenhound Building on Washington Street.  The Mid-Island Loop, Miacomet Loop and Sconset via Old South Road route began operating in time for the 2018 Daffodil Festival.  Beginning October 9th these same three routes will continue to operate weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and weekends from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. throughout the winter.

In addition to the new porch at the Greenhound Building on Washington Street, the Nantucket NRTA has also partnered with ReMain Nantucket LLC to provide riders with other important amenities to make riding the bus easier.  Two new shelters will be constructed at the Landmark House stop on Orange Street and at the Dave Street stop on Pleasant Street with other existing shelters located at Tom Nevers and The Muse bus stops.   The shelters will be equipped with solar panels to provide light during the early winter evenings when the buses will still be operating.  The Greenhound Building will also remain open daily from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. throughout the winter.

According to Jason Bridges, NRTA Board Chair, “We are very excited about rolling out the first year round public transportation on Nantucket.”

Those that wish to purchase passes may do so at the following reduced prices at the NRTA office at 20R South Water Street.  Passes are valid until December 31, 2018.  2019 passes will be available for purchase in December 2018.
